Does the Pixel Watch have full water resistance? Important information
Most modern smartwatches are water resistant, at least to some extent. The Pixel Watch is water-resistant up to a depth of 5 meters, but how far you actually go in the water is still up to you and your own good judgment. Follow the steps in this manual to make sure you know what you’re doing when using your Pixel Watch in the water.
The Pixel Watch is certified to be submersible.
From the factory, the vast majority of smartphones and smartwatches on the market today are waterproof to some extent, usually measured in terms of an IP rating. It is typically presented as an IP rating, which is comprised of two variables, each of which indicates a different type of resistance.
The Galaxy Watch 5, for instance, has a dust and foreign object resistance rating of 6 and a water resistance rating of 8 thanks to its IP68 certification. The high values of both of these metrics suggest that they are relatively long-lasting.
Google’s Pixel Watch is not rated for water resistance, and there is no indication of such in the product listings on Google’s site. Instead, the device has a 5 ATM rating, which indicates the maximum pressure it can withstand before water leaks through. That’s roughly 50 meters (150 feet) below the surface, far beyond the depth at which the human eye is capable of seeing without the aid of underwater equipment.

While there is no official IP rating for the Pixel Watch, its degree of protection makes it comparable to the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Apple Watch Series 8. The Apple Watch Ultra, with its unprecedented depth rating of 100 meters, is far superior to any other smartwatch.
An ATM rating is more trustworthy because it indicates the minimum amount of water pressure required to cause problems. Seeing the “ATM” symbol on a watch ensures you that it can withstand water pressure up to that level.
The Pixel Watch has me curious, though: can I wear it swimming?
The uncertainty surrounding waterproofing ratings is frustrating. Your Pixel Watch is water resistant, but I wouldn’t recommend wearing it while swimming or playing water sports.
If you wear a Pixel Watch, water pressure is your top concern. Do you plan on engaging in water sports or high-altitude diving that could force water into your device? If this is the case, it’s best to hold off. If you’re in a shallow pool, wading is fine, and swimming is fine too, as long as you don’t submerge your watch or do anything else that could damage it, says Google. However, you shouldn’t go swimming or diving with your Pixel Watch because salt water is much more damaging than fresh water.
The Pixel Watch and other smartwatches prevent water from damaging their internal components with a variety of adhesives and barriers. These adhesives can lose their effectiveness over time. When exposed to water on a regular basis, that process speeds up. Due to the current methods of waterproofing electronics, this occurs frequently.
Additionally, in the extremely unlikely event that you forget your Pixel Watch in water for more than 24 hours, you should remove it immediately. Care should be taken to prevent soapy water from entering the watch’s openings, as this could eventually weaken the waterproofing.
If you must expose your Pixel Watch to water, common sense is all you need to know. Avoid taking the watch into salt water or doing anything else that might introduce extra water into the mechanism. You ought to be fine if you stick to those rules. Since the Pixel Watch, like every other modern smartwatch, loses its waterproofing over time, the safest course of action is to avoid water altogether if you’re particularly risk-averse.
